Public Health England – School Zone Resources to address loneliness

A recent national survey of children and young people showed that one in ten 11 to 22 year olds reported often or always feeling lonely.

Building Connections is a new NHS approved Every Mind Matters resource which encourages young people in Year 6, KS3 and KS4 to discuss loneliness and provides some self-care techniques which they can use when they’re feeling lonely.

Using peer-to-peer discussion, videos and activities, the students will identify what worry might feel or look like and describe different actions that they can take if they are worried. Simple, practical advice is also provided to help achieve a healthier mind.

The lesson resources include:

  • an accompanying PowerPoint to use in class
  • print out activities for students
  • core peer-to-peer activities
  • plenaries and extension ideas
  • supporting video content
