ProVeg UK – School Plates Programme

Through the School Plates initiative, ProVeg UK supports schools, local authorities and caterers to make simple and easy to implement menu changes that are proven to increase the uptake of meat-free meals. These changes can help reduce carbon footprints and encourage more sustainable choices thereby achieving three key goals – to improve children’s health, to save money and protect the planet!

Schools choosing to participate in the free School Plates programme will receive consultancy which includes:

  • Menu review and advice to increase the uptake of existing vegetarian options
  • New meal suggestions and new recipes (all nutritionally balanced and delicious)
  • Help to introduce meat-free days, as well as educational planet-themed days
  • In-person plant-based cooking and training for groups of caterers and development chefs
  • Help to analyse the environmental impact of menu changes, including climate emissions savings
