Understanding SLIP (Sex, the Law, Internet and Pornography)

A FREE information, support and discussion session for parents and professionals

This session will provide support and information to any parent who is concerned about their child or teenager engaging in risky behaviours both online and in person and will explain how SLIP could help. It also gives tips on how parents can support their child or teenager.

There are still places available for the sessions on the 8th December 2022 for parents and professionals.

The SLIP (Sex, the Law, Internet, and Pornography) Programme for young people aged 9 to 24 has been running for almost 5 years with the support of BBC Children in Need, and demand increases year on year.

Referrals come from the Police, Social Care, Schools, and Parents. Many professionals and parents want to know more about the programme, if the programme would help the child/young person they are referring or who is on the programme, and how they can support them outside of the programme and moving forward. Parents who don’t have a child/young person on the programme but are concerned that their child/young person could be engaging in risky behaviour, also contact us for support.

Many parents are naturally concerned that their child/young person has engaged in, or is at risk of engaging in, risky behaviours. We want to help them understand that these types of behaviours are unfortunately not uncommon amongst children and young people and are often because they have little or no understanding of consent and the law and the possible consequences of their behaviours.

To help us manage the demand for information and support and to enable us to spend more time explaining things, we have set up FREE online sessions for parents and professionals. Please see the attached leaflet for dates and times.

We would like to encourage all parents who have a child/young person on or about to start the programme to join a session as it will really help them understand the programme and how it will benefit their child/young person. However, this is also open to parents who would like to support their child/young person themselves; they do not need to have a child/young person on or about to start the programme

We also run a similar programme called ‘ABC’, for people who have a learning disability or autism. Our ‘Understanding ABC’ session is very popular with both professionals and parents.
