Kick Ash – The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Youth Smoking Prevention Programme – has been reviewed and updated and is now being delivered in collaboration with the Healthy You Stop Smoking Service (which has replaced Camquit). There are, as a result, two pathways available to schools which can be accessed either independently or as a combination.
- Mentor Training (targeted at Y8 and Y9) to encourage young people to explore the different reasons and motivations their peers may have for smoking/vaping and to subsequently champion the importance of being smoke/vape free.
- In-school smoking cessation clinics for those students who have started smoking but want to give up.
Although there is a Mentor Training package which has been designed for self-delivery (this comprises of a presentation, teachers’ guide and student workbook) the Kick Ash programme is available for face to face delivery from September 2021.
There is also a bank of resources available that can be uploaded to the digital display screens to support a smoking/vaping campaign as well as some short focused tutor group tasks that can be used to help identify students who may benefit from the school based clinic sessions.
More information can be found on the Kick Ash web page although it may be helpful to check here if your school has a need for the programme components. The Yes/No style questions should take no more than 5 minutes to complete.
Attached are two flyers, one summarises the new, bespoke Healthy You Stop Smoking service for young people aged from 13 – 17 years which the students can refer into via a text message service. The other outlines the one to one and group sessions that can be delivered free of charge on the school site to students wanting to quit smoking.
