The Children’s Society

The Children’s Society has been working in conjunction with the Cambridgeshire Police Educational team as well as the local Safeguarding Board to provide a suite of resources – presentations and teacher guides – to support both Primary and Secondary schools in raising awareness of issues which are vital to help protect their students from getting involved in criminal activity or becoming exploited.

Keeping young people safe is everyone’s responsibility and the protective measures need to be put in place from an early age starting in Key Stage 1 in order to set the foundations for understanding and identifying the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships.

In Key Stage 2 it is important that opportunities are provided to fully explore the notion of “Keeping Safe” so as to empower children to identify situations in which they feel uncomfortable and to say “no!” It is equally vital they are equipped with the knowledge of how they can seek help and support.

The resources provided for Secondary schools focus on helping Key Stage 3 and 4 students to recognise the signs of criminal and sexual exploitation.

The resources are freely downloadable and are designed to embed the information and messages contained within the local Eyes and Ears programme for schools.
